Donation to AQNetwork (administered by Trans Rescue)
We are reaching out to you with a critical appeal on behalf of one of our bravest affiliates, Agnes Shemerirwe—known by many as Agy HRD, and her small organization, AQNetwork.
Agy is a remarkable activist championing trans rights in Uganda, a country where such work is met with extreme peril. Presently, Agy is facing a severe emergency. They are providing refuge to 12 individuals—10 of whom are trans and 2 are gay—all of whom were recently arrested, tortured, and subsequently released. These courageous individuals cannot return home for fear of being rearrested. Additionally, 10 of the shelter residents are in urgent need of medical attention due to sexual abuse endured in prison, with 3 living with HIV and 7 suffering from undiagnosed illnesses due to lack of funds for medical care. And there are 7 more needing shelter for which there is no room.
Unfortunately, all shelters in Uganda are currently at full capacity, and Agy's personal resources have been exhausted. In light of these dire circumstances, we are urgently working to raise 4 million UGX (approximately 1000 EUR). This amount would sustain the shelter for four months, a critical period that would allow both Agy and Trans Rescue to work towards securing long-term safety for these individuals.
While Agy's organization, AQNetwork, plays a vital role on the frontline, it lacks the infrastructure to administer funds due to the severe legal challenges faced in Uganda. As maintaining a queer organization in Uganda is a serious felony, we at Trans Rescue have agreed to receive donations on their behalf, ensuring that all funds are properly managed and allocated directly to Agy’s efforts.
